5,500 get State of City invites

1/10/2003

Mayor Jack Ford has mailed invitations to 5,500 people to view his second annual State of the City speech next week in the Valentine Theatre.

The Valentine seats 900 people in the main theater. The speech is set for 7 p.m. Thusday.

A few of the invitations were accidentally left out of the envelopes, said Megan Vahey, public information officer for the mayor.

“That was accidental. Unfortunately, a few went out without an invite. It was a huge mailing. Those who have called, we're probably sending them back out,” Ms. Vahey said.

The speech is free and open to the public.

She said spectators must be seated by 6:30 p.m. because the speech may be broadcast live on television.

Last year's address, given Feb. 21 in Nitschke Auditorium at the University of Toledo, drew about 900 people to the hall with 1,000 seats. Four thousand invitations were sent last year.
