An Old West End man will appear in court today on charges that he fatally stabbed a Toledoan in the chest during an argument at his house yesterday.

Larey C. Anderson, 51, of 3021 Parkwood Ave., is charged with one count of murder in the death of Adrian Solomon, 39, of 3342 Maplewood Ave. He was being held in the Lucas County jail pending an appearance in Toledo Municipal Court.

Mr. Solomon died of a single stab wound to his chest. He suffered a puncture wound to his aorta near his heart, Dr. James Patrick, Lucas County coroner, said after an autopsy.

The victim also had defense wounds on his hands and arms.

“It was a blow. It was a terrible loss,” Travis Woodard, the victim's brother-in-law, said.

He said Mr. Solomon, who would have turned 40 today, was a “good man who took care of his family,” which included two teenage daughters.

Officers were sent to Parkwood and West Central Avenue about 1:30 a.m. on a report of a man stabbed. They found Mr. Solomon in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lt. Rick Reed said a handful of people, all of whom were acquaintances, were inside Mr. Anderson's house drinking, using drugs, and partying for several hours. The victim's girlfriend, Shalaunda Jordan, “got a little out of control,” went inside Mr. Anderson's bedroom, and began tearing it up. An argument ensued involving her, Mr. Anderson, and Mr. Solomon. Mr. Anderson asked them to leave.

He told police Mr. Solomon assaulted him. There was minor scuffle upstairs and another downstairs. When Mr. Anderson tried to get Mr. Solomon to leave, there was a confrontation at the front door. Police allege Mr. Anderson was stabbed as an attempt was made to oust him from the house, the lieutenant said.

Investigators speculate Mr. Solomon was stabbed in the enclosed front porch or doorway area. He “went a few steps and collapsed in the street,” Lieutenant Reed said.

Neighbor Scott Robinson awoke to a woman, Ms. Jordan, screaming for the victim to get up. He saw her crouching, then jumping up and down in the street. He thought she had fallen. When he got to the end of his walkway, he saw she was on top of the victim. When she got up, she was covered in blood, he said.

Mr. Anderson, who suffered minor wounds, was arrested at his house. No weapon has been recovered.

Ms. Jordan, 32, who has addresses on West Woodruff Avenue and Bush Street, was arrested after she became combative with officers. She allegedly kicked a female officer, court records state. Ms. Jordan was charged with felony assault on a police officer. She was being held in the jail last night pending an appearance today in municipal court.

Yesterday, the area in front of Mr. Anderson's two-story house was cordoned off with yellow police tape. Inside, detectives searched for evidence.

Many neighbors, surprised such a crime happened in their usually quiet community, were asleep when the incident occurred. A few, however, heard commotion.

“We heard a little fussin' but were in bed. We just heard a bunch of arguing,” Shawn Gregory said.

Mr. Robinson said Mr. Anderson was a nice man, who was on disability and lived with his dog. He said Mr. Anderson welcomed him to the neighborhood three years ago.
