A teenager who was among a group of boys who tortured a Vietnam veteran in 1996 was sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for the robbery of a carryout.

Luis Osley, 18, of 3209 Maher St., was sent to prison for two years by Judge William Skow. In February, Osley pleaded no contest to and was found guilty of robbery.

In October, 1996, Osley and seven other youths broke into the home of the veteran who lived on Utica Street and began an assault that included putting chemical cleaner, water, cigarette ashes, laundry soap, and toothpaste in his eyes. The man was bound to a living room couch, urinated on, and forced to eat human feces.

Osley, then 12, was committed to a state Department of Youth Services facility. The other defendants, who were 12 and 13, also were placed in youth offender facilities.

Gary Cook, an assistant county prosecutor, said the robbery of a carryout in the 700 block of Bush Street occurred Sept. 15. Osley and a co-defendant covered their faces and took cash from a register.

A witness told police one of the robbers had a gun. The co-defendant, Aaron Baker of 918 North Michigan St., pleaded no contest to and was found guilty of robbery and was sentenced to two years in prison by Judge Charles Wittenberg.
