Court strips license from Huron lawyer

4/24/2003

COLUMBUS - Lawyer Mark E. Delong of Huron, Ohio, yesterday was suspended from practicing law in the state for 18 months by the Ohio Supreme Court.

Mr. Delong, a lawyer in the state since 1973, received a suspension in 1993 for failing to comply with the Ohio Supreme Court's requirements for continuing legal education.

However, the court's Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline said he continued to work as general counsel for a large truck manufacturer and did not inform his employer that his license was suspended. Mr. Delong retired from the company in June, 2001, but continued to practice law until last year.

Mr. Delong also was routinely late between 1987 and 1998 in registering with the court, filing the necessary paperwork at least six months late. The documents, which must be filed every two years, were received five years late by the court on one occasion.
