Officials want to close Toledo tattoo parlor

7/1/2003

The Toledo-Lucas County health department wants to close a Toledo tattoo parlor because it has a history of failing to provide paperwork showing it is properly sterilizing its equipment.

Renee's Tattoos, 1412 South Ave., allegedly failed to provide the paperwork on at least six separate occasions dating to December. The health department has sent notice of license revocation letters to owners Renee and Pedro Hernandez, as well as operator Mario Garza. They could not be reached for comment.

The business owners have 15 days to appeal the revocation notice. If they fail to appeal, their license will be revoked.

Mike Oricko, supervisor of the health department's environmental services division, said the business appears to have been closed for a month, but the department wanted to prevent it from reopening.

If the revocation order stands, it will be the second time the department has ordered a local tattoo parlor closed. The department revoked the license of King Otto's Tattoo last year.
