City official on the mend, awaiting word on return

Jay Black, Jr., the city of Toledo's chief operating officer, who has been recovering from a yard accident, will find out at the end of the month when he can return to work. Mr. Black cut a tendon in his left leg above the knee while getting on a riding mower June 14.

“I'm in a three-week therapy. I go back to my doctor on the 31st [of July]. At that time, I'm expecting to be able to walk again. Once I can walk, at a very worst-case scenario, I'll be able to get back to the office on at least a limited basis,” he said.

The tendon was cut three-quarters of the way through by an exposed piece of metal in the riding mower seat. An ankle-to-thigh brace was removed from his leg last week, but he has not been able to put any weight on the leg, he said.

Mr. Black said he has been in daily contact with his office, as well as with some members of City Council.
