Trial set for father in child-abuse case

ADRIAN — Jason Betz, who faces two counts of second-degree child abuse after allegedly making his children walk nearly five miles to school, will have his case heard at a jury trial Sept. 30.

Mr. Betz, 31, was arraigned Wednesday in Lenawee County Circuit Court before Judge Harvey Koselka. He stood mute on both charges via a waiver.

The charges stem from an incident in March when Mr. Betz allegedly told his two daughters, ages 7 and 10, to walk along busy U.S. 223 from their home in Palmyra to Blissfield Elementary School.
