City slates leaf pickups, starting in W. Toledo

10/24/2003

The clock's falling back and the leaves are falling down - time for Toledo's leaf collection.

Armed with new trucks, the city intends to begin scooping up leaves Monday, starting in parts of West Toledo.

The city has bought 24 leaf collection vehicles to do battle with the estimated 115,000 trees that shed their canopies every fall.

In an effort to make the process more efficient, the city said it will post more signs in neighborhoods listing the day of pickup. Also, the city will have information on its Web site www.seetoledo.com listing specific pickup information.

In the event of an early snow, as happened last year, the city has plans to bring in extra workers and equipment to clear the streets.

The pickup will start in the 43613 ZIP code.
