School district files suit over building materials

11/13/2003

A complaint has been filed in Wood County Common Pleas Court by the Perrysburg Exempted Village School District against four corporations involved in the construction of the new Perrysburg High School.

The complaint alleges that the school district has suffered substantial monetary damages, costs, and expenses because of faulty building materials. Soon after the high school was completed in 2001, linoleum tile flooring on the first floor of the building exhibited distress, including widespread areas of ripples, bubbles, indentations, cuts and gouges. Linoleum in the commons area showed the most distress, according to the complaint.

In August, 2002, all tile in the commons area was removed and replaced, but problems have occurred as a result of extensive bubbling and loss of adhesion, the complaint states.

Flooring in corridors of the first-floor classroom section and the auditorium wing corridors also has problems.

Because of repeated failure of the flooring systems in the school, complete removal and replacement of all linoleum tile on the first floor is necessary, according to the complaint, which seeks more than $425,000 in damages each from Fanning/Howey Associates, Inc., of Celina, Ohio; OCP Contractors, Inc., of Holland; Mosser Construction, Inc., of Fremont, Ohio, and Forbo Linoleum, Inc., of Hazleton, Pa.
