Toledo man sentenced in convenience store heists

3/3/2004

A Toledo man who used a knife and a handgun as weapons in a series of convenience store robberies last year was sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to 10 years in prison.

Allan J. Bonaminio, 43, of 5819 Murnen Rd., was sentenced by Judge Frederick McDonald for the armed robberies in August and September.

Bonaminio used a gun Aug. 5 to rob In & Out Express, 5870 Skyview Dr., and threatened employees with a knife Sept. 22 when he took cash from Shell/True North, 1853 West Central Ave., and Sept. 24 from In & Out, 1646 West Alexis Rd.

In the most recent robbery, a police officer confronted the knife-wielding defendant. In an ensuing struggle Bonaminio hit his head on the sidewalk, suffering a skull fracture.

Bonaminio also was sentenced by Judge McDonald to the remainder of a three-year sentence he received in 2001 for a conviction in Lucas County on three counts of robbery. He was released after he had served about 15 months.
