Delphos man receives 3 years for arson, fraud

5/7/2004

VAN WERT - A Delphos, Ohio, man was sentenced yesterday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court to serve three years in prison for aggravated arson and insurance fraud.

Judge Charles Steele handed down the sentence to Raymond Eggeman, 62, who was convicted by a jury last November. The charges stemmed from an empty apartment fire in September, 2002, from which the owner, Eggeman, then proceeded to collect nearly $50,000 in insurance proceeds.

The sentence was stayed while Eggeman prepares an appeal to the Third District Court of Appeals.

He is expected to post a cash or property bond and then will be placed on electronic home monitoring during the appeal process, the judge ruled.
