Earnings: 2nd-quarter profit triples at Cooper Tire

Findlay's Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. yesterday said its second quarter profit nearly tripled because of improved pricing, increased production volume, and strong sales of new products.

It reported a profit of $33.4 million, or 44 cents a share, up 163 percent from $12.7 million, or 17 cents a share, for the same period a year ago. The tire and auto parts maker said it had record sales for the quarter of $992 million, up 18 percent from $840 million from a year ago.

BOWLING GREEN - Sky Financial Group Inc., a bank holding company based here, yesterday reported second-quarter profit of $40.2 million, or 43 cents a share, up 7 percent from $37.5 million, or 42 cents a share, for the period a year earlier.

The company also reported net interest income of $103 million in the quarter, up 6 percent from $97 million, and assets of $12.1 billion, down slightly from $12.2 billion in mid-2003.

Toledo's Libbey Inc. yesterday reported second-quarter profit of $9.4 million, or 68 cents a share, up 18 percent from $7.9 million, or 59 cents a share, for the period a year earlier.

The tableware company said it had sales for the period of $136 million, up 6 percent from $128 million from a year earlier.
