The city of Toledo will receive $270,352 from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development this year to help low-income residents make a down payment on a new home.
Mayor Jack Ford and HUD s Midwest director, Joseph Galvan, announced the grant yesterday. The program will begin running in September.
Mr. Galvan said the city will be able to award as much as $5,000 to individual first-time home buyers who qualify under the American Dream Down Payment Assistance Initiative. The $200 million program was signed into law by President Bush in December.
