2 suspects in man's slaying make court appearances

10/5/2004

Two men charged in the June 7 murder of a West Toledo man outside Jackman Elementary School made separate court appearances yesterday in Toledo and Monroe County.

Bradley Zasada, 20, of 4623 Imperial Drive, was being held in the Lucas County jail on a $500,000 bond on an aggravated murder charge in the shooting death of 47-year-old Randy Johnson. He was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court.

His accomplice, Jason Simons, 22, who has no permanent address, was sentenced to 150 days in jail and a year's probation in Monroe County District Court on an unrelated drug possession charge. He is serving his sentence in the Monroe County jail, where he is awaiting extradition on an aggravated murder charge in Toledo.

They were charged Friday after Toledo detectives were notified that Mr. Zasada admitted to participating in Mr. Johnson's murder and implicated Mr. Simons in the crime.

The body was found in the school parking lot, 2010 Northover Rd., by an employee opening the building.
