FREMONT - A Port Clinton man has been sentenced to two years in prison for leading police on a chase through Fremont last fall.

Joel Cal, 54, was given the prison term Wednesday by Judge James Sherck of Sandusky County Common Pleas Court. Cal was convicted earlier of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer in connection with the Sept. 22 pursuit.

As part of a plea agreement, charges of tampering with evidence and possession of crack cocaine were dismissed.

According to authorities, Cal fled officers who tried to pull him over on North Street and eventually abandoned his vehicle on Woodson Way.

He ran but was taken into a custody a short time later.
