Taft to name Kuhlman Municipal Court judge

1/27/2005

COLUMBUS - After several attempts, Toledo attorney Tim Kuhlman is about to make it to the judicial bench.

Gov. Bob Taft will formally announce his appointment today to one of two vacancies on Toledo Municipal Court, an administration source confirmed yesterday.

Mr. Kuhlman, 38, will complete the final year left in the term of Judge Denise Dartt, a Democrat elected to the Lucas County Common Pleas Court bench in November. He will run for a six-year term in his own right this year.

Since 1999, Mr. Kuhlman has run twice unsuccessfully for Municipal Court and once for Common Pleas Court.

An appointment is pending for the second Municipal Court vacancy created when Judge Thomas Osowik, a Democrat, was elected to Common Pleas Court. The election of Judith Lanzinger to the Ohio Supreme Court has also created an opening on the 6th District Court of Appeals, while a common pleas vacancy was created when Judge William Skow ascended to the appeals bench.

Mr. Kuhlman, an attorney with Eastman & Smith in Toledo, lives with his wife, Kathy, in Toledo. He earned his law degree from the University of Toledo in 1991 and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hillsdale College in 1988.
