Court decision favoring Waterville Township appealed

2/10/2005

A court decision in favor of Waterville Township residents who petitioned Lucas County commissioners to remove the villages of Waterville and Whitehouse from the township has been appealed.

Anton Urbas, Jr., and Timothy Pedro have asked Ohio's 6th District Court of Appeals to re-examine the decision of Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Christiansen.

He ruled that state law allows townships to remove the municipalities they encompass if a majority of the property holders in the township's unincorporated area petition for the change.

The petition drive began in 2001 after Mr. Pedro, a Waterville resident, was elected a township trustee.
