Mother files lawsuit over accidental death

3/15/2005

The mother of a 9-year-old boy who was accidentally shot and killed by another boy filed a wrongful death lawsuit yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Chenwon Hunt, who was the mother of Je'Juan Jordan, is suing Dorothy Irish and her son, David Harris, who fatally shot Je'Juan on March 13, 2004, at Irish's home on F Street.

The lawsuit, which was assigned to Judge Gary Cook, is seeking compensatory damages, funeral and burial expenses, and attorney fees in excess of $25,000.

Irish was convicted of child endangering and sentenced in August to community control for four years.

She left her home after she saw her son and three other boys playing with a sawed-off shotgun. The gun discharged in an upstairs bedroom, hitting Je'Juan in the head.
