A Toledo man is suing Springfield Local schools for an incident in which his son allegedly was struck by a golf cart at a high school football game in 2003.

In the lawsuit filed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, Johnny Reese of 4712 Vallego Drive said a golf car hit his son, Deshawn Reese, while he was at the Springfield-Rogers varsity football game Aug. 22, 2003.

Mr. Reese said his son suffered pain and suffering in the way of a clavicle fracture, abrasions to the shoulder, elbow, hands, and knees, mental anguish, and emotional distress. He is seeking damages in excess of $25,000.

The lawsuit said the vehicle was operated by the then-3-year-old son of Assistant Football Coach Dryel Williams, who also was named as a defendant in the complaint.

Superintendent Cynthia Beekley said she had not received the lawsuit and couldn't comment. Mr. Williams could not be reached for comment.
