Man convicted in holdup, brawl at Adrian nightclub

ADRIAN - A Tecumseh, Mich., man involved in a brawl in December and a robbery in January was convicted yesterday in Lenawee County Circuit Court on two charges related to the incidents as well as a drug charge. John Madison pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon stemming from the brawl.

Madison and two other men assaulted Michael Rodgers, 26, an Adrian College basketball player, on Dec. 3 outside an Adrian nightclub, sending Mr. Rodgers to the hospital with a serious head injury from which he has recovered.

Last week, Reginald Williams, 22, of Adrian, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon for his role in the incident.

Madison also pleaded guilty to being an accessory to commit armed robbery. He drove the getaway car in the Jan. 18 robbery of a 7-Eleven on Beecher Street in Adrian. Additionally, Madison pleaded guilty to a cocaine possession charge.

He is to be sentenced May 6.
