Driver admits guilt in fatal 2004 accident

PORT CLINTON - A Port Clinton woman who caused an accident that killed a motorcyclist last summer has been convicted in connection with the crash but won't face jail time.

Amanda Cleckner, 21, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor, in Ottawa County Municipal Court. Judge Frederick Hany sentenced her to 60 days in jail but suspended the jail time. Ms. Cleckner also was fined $750 plus court costs, and her driver's license was suspended for a year.

The Ohio Highway Patrol said Ms. Cleckner pulled out of a driveway on State Rt. 163 in into the path of an eastbound motorcycle on July 28, 2004. Sherry Miles, 43, of Toledo, a passenger on the cycle, died a week later of head injuries suffered crash.
