Woodward High teacher to be sentenced May 26

A Woodward High School teacher convicted in Lucas County Common Pleas Court of inappropriately touching a 16-year-old female student will be sentenced May 26.

Richard Hartman, 2630 Liverpool Ct., entered an Alford plea on Monday to two counts of disorderly conduct. He was found guilty by Judge Ruth Ann Franks.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but pleads guilty to a lesser charge to escape more severe penalties had the case gone to trial.

Prosecutors said the plea agreement calls for Mr. Hartman to relinquish his teaching license in Ohio. He was suspended without pay in January from his position with Toledo Public Schools as a full-time math teacher.
