Libbey posts quarterly loss

4/27/2005

Toledo's Libbey Inc. reported a first-quarter loss yesterday of $1.6 million, or 12 cents a share, down from a profit of $565,000, or 4 cents a share, for the same period a year ago.

Libbey took a $3 million charge last quarter related to the February closing of its City of Industry, Calif., glass factory and a realignment of its production capacity. Without the charge, Libbey would have had a profit of $361,000, or 3 cents a share, last quarter.

The Toledo tableware firm said it had sales for the quarter of $129.8 million, up more than 5 percent from $123.1 million for the period a year ago.
