Plastic-bottle plant to be closed by O-I

4/28/2005

Owens-Illinois Inc. said yesterday it will close a 63,000-square-foot plant in Sullivan, Ind., that makes plastic bottles for the health-care industry and will move the work to other facilities.

The Toledo Fortune 500 firm, the world's largest glass-container maker, sold off most of its plastic-container operations last year but will have 18 plastics factories worldwide after the Indiana closing.

The firm said it will work with a union and government agencies to help the 63 workers find new jobs. O-I acquired the Sullivan plant from another company in 1985.
