Program offers low-income legal aid
6/8/2005A program that offers legal help to low-income people continues through June 30 at the Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services, 3210 Monroe St.
The legal services are provided by lawyers and legal staff of Legal Aid of Western Ohio, which received a $55,888 grant from Job and Family Services.
Working at the Job and Family Services office since April, the lawyers have helped low-income people who, for instance, would like a job but need to have a conviction expunged from their record or who need to file for bankruptcy, said Bob Comes, a Legal Aid lawyer.
Lawyers also work on child support issues.
The program "is designed for families, and that's the overriding theme," Mr. Comes said.
Families with income of up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible.
