Jeremy Quinn, Jr., has been charged in the attack of a teenager outside her home in Sylvania Township. Quinn had been released from prison four days before incident.

Just days after his release from a state prison, Jeremy Quinn, Jr., was charged with kidnapping a 16-year-old Sylvania Township girl at knifepoint Monday from the driveway of her home and raping her.

Quinn, 22, of 8052 Dorr St., Springfield Township, was arraigned yesterday in Sylvania Municipal Court on one count of kidnapping and six counts of rape.

The defendant, who was ordered held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $700,000 bond, will return to court today for the appointment of a public defender to represent him.

The teenage girl had just gotten into her car outside her home near Bancroft Street and Centennial Road about 4:15 p.m. Monday to go to work when she was confronted by a man with a knife.

Sylvania Township police said the attacker forced the girl onto the floor of the passenger seat of the car, drove to an undisclosed, secluded area nearby, and sexually assaulted the teenager.

He then drove her back near her home before fleeing on foot. The victim then called police. Investigators would not say from where.

"He had told her he was going to rob her and not to give him any trouble," said Sylvania Township police Sgt. Bob Colwell. He said there was no robbery because the girl had no money.

Police said a man similar in description to Quinn was seen by residents riding a bicycle through the neighborhood shortly before the attack.

Sergeant Colwell said a bicycle was recovered near the girl's home, but authorities had not yet determined if it was used by the assailant.

During his arraignment before Sylvania Municipal Judge M. Scott Ramey, Quinn said he was released from prison Thursday and wondered how he could be facing so many charges in such a short period of freedom.

He is facing six counts of rape because he is accused of engaging in six sexual acts with the 16-year-old.

Quinn was released by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction after serving a 13-month sentence at the North Central Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio.

He had been convicted in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on charges of burglary and menacing by stalking.

A spokesman for the state prison system said Quinn was released after completing his sentence and was not on parole.

When he was 14, Quinn was convicted of one count of delinquency in connection with rape and two counts of delinquency in connection with kidnapping. He was found delinquent for attacks on two South Toledo women Oct. 15 and Oct 16, 1996. Both were raped in their apartments.

He was 13 at the time of the assaults and could not be tried as an adult. He served his sentence in a youth detention facility until he was 21.

Sergeant Colwell praised the victim of Monday's assault, saying she remained calm enough to provide details that helped lead to Quinn's arrest only about 45 minutes after police were first notified of the assault at 5:17 p.m.

Lucas County sheriff's deputies heard a report of the crime over the police radio and responded to the scene.

"They heard the physical description and they are familiar with Quinn," Sergeant Colwell said.

Township police and sheriff's deputies went to the defendant's Dorr Street home and arrested him in his upstairs bedroom without incident.

As authorities left the home with Quinn, the defendant's mother confronted officers and assaulted a sheriff's deputy, according to Sergeant Colwell.

Alice Quinn, 54, also of 8052 Dorr St. was charged with one felony charge of assault and misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

At the arraignment of Ms. Quinn yesterday, Judge Ramey referred the assault charge to the Lucas County grand jury.

He set a date of Aug. 19 for a pretrial conference on the two misdemeanor charges.

She was being held last night in the county jail in lieu of $2,500 bond.
