Fedor seeks intervention in lawsuit

State Sen. Teresa Fedor (D., Toledo) yesterday sent letters to two state officials urging their immediate intervention in a lawsuit filed by a troubled Cleveland charter school against its sponsoring agency, the Lucas County Educational Service Center.

In one letter, Ms. Fedor urged Ohio Auditor Betty Montgomery to immediately release a 2002 audit of The International Preparatory School so that the county agency may review the audit during its next meeting.

In the other, Ms. Fedor asked Attorney General Jim Petro to intervene in the lawsuit filed Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Judge Ronald Bowman, retired from Lucas County Common Pleas Court, granted a temporary injunction to the school that blocks the LCESC board from closing the school.

A hearing concerning a permanent injunction is scheduled for Thursday.

During a meeting Sept. 20, the local agency announced its intent to close the school because of financial problems, low test scores, and failure to submit state-required data.
