Andersons plans second ethanol plant

10/20/2005

The Andersons Inc., a Maumee agribusiness, yesterday announced it plans to build an ethanol plant in north central Indiana, twice the size of one it began construction on in southern Michigan last month.

The new facility will be in Clymers, Ind., costing $140 million

and with a capacity for 110 million gallons of ethanol, creating

40 to 50 jobs. It also would produce 350 tons of distillers dried grains for feed, making it the largest and most modern east of the Mississippi River, the company said.

The fi rm is building an $86 million plant near Albion, Mich., which will have a capacity of 55 million gallons. Ethanol distilled from corn is mixed with unleaded gasoline to make a fuel called gasohol. Such plants provide another avenue for farmers to sell their crops.
