Andersons to rebuild damaged elevator

11/4/2005

The Andersons Inc. announced yesterday it plans to rebuild the grain facility along the Maumee River that was damaged by two explosions and a fire four months ago.

The Maumee company said the facility, which is leased from Cargill Inc., will be restored by next September. The cost of the project was not announced.

Plans call for operations of the 6 million-bushel elevator to be resumed, along with additions or upgrades for safety, efficiency, and service.

Local, state, and federal officials ruled the June 30 fire and explosions accidental. The company has said it expects income this year to be hurt by the disaster and its aftermath, but insurance should cover the costs later.
