Toledo s project to eliminate overflows from the Point Place sanitary sewer has received a $1.84 million low-interest loan from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
The project will extend a relief sewer up Edgewater Drive from 134th Street to 149th Street to eliminate a sewer overflow at 145th Street.
The loan comes from the Ohio EPA s Water Pollution Control Loan Fund.
The project is part of the city s Toledo Waterways Initiative, a $450 million project required through a consent decree between the city and U.S. EPA to correct wet weather problems throughout the city s wastewater system.
The low interest rate will save the city an estimated $557,000 in interest over the 20-year life of the loan when compared to market interest rates.
Additionally, the city has received a $702,000 grant for the project from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
