Dana to cut 800 jobs in Canada, Australia

12/21/2005

Toledo's Dana Corp. will cut about 800 of 1,830 jobs at four plants in Canada and Australia next year after contracts for truck frames and rear axle modules expire, the auto supplier said yesterday.

Dana will record pre-tax charges of about $28 million this quarter related to costs from the cuts, which follow a number of other planned cuts, closings, and divestitures announced recently. Additional pre-tax charges of $10 million will be recorded in 2006 or early 2007, the company said.

About 500 jobs will be eliminated at Dana's truck frame factory in Thorold, Ont., where 180 employees will remain to stamp parts for other Dana facilities. About 300 jobs will be cut at three Australian factories, where 850 employees will remain to build axles and other parts.
