Parolee gets 17 months for molesting 13-year-old

An Ottawa County man has been ordered to spend 17 months in prison for molesting a 13-year-old girl and could face additional time behind bars for violating his probation for the 1974 slaying of an Oak Harbor shop owner.

Donald Mark Woods, 50, was given concurrent 17-month terms Monday by visiting Judge Robert Christiansen in Ottawa County Common Pleas Court for two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, plus a concurrent 11-month term for one count of disseminating material harmful to juveniles.

Woods was convicted of the offenses last month. He admitted in court that he showed pornography on his computer to the girl in July, then tried to force her to have sex with him.

He was paroled in February, 2004, from a sentence of 15 years to life in prison for the shooting death Nov. 12, 1974, of Gretchen Musser, 44, who owned a sporting goods and bait shop.

Assistant county Prosecutor Lorrain Croy said Woods faces a parole hearing next month and could be ordered to serve the rest of his sentence for Ms. Musser's slaying.
