Tennessean, 72, indicted on fake securities charge

A federal grand jury has indicted a Tennessee man who is suspected of cashing bogus paychecks.

He was arrested in April in Putnam County after he allegedly was seen changing the license plates on his vehicle.

William G. Baker of Chattanooga was indicted on one count of possession of counterfeit securities, according to the case summary posted on the Web page of the Ohio Northern District of the U.S. District Courts.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Mr. Baker, who was 72 when he was arrested in April, is suspected of cashing fake checks in 30 states.
