Jury recommends life in prison for Lima killer

1/27/2006

LIMA, Ohio A jury recommended that a 47-year-old Lima man who killed two women should spend the rest of his life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Michael Glenn was convicted by the same jury last week of four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery stemming from the April 20 deaths of Carmen Chitman, 51, and her daughter, Lanette McDonald, 27. Allen County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Reed is to sentence Glenn on Monday.

Glenn admitted he beat the women to death after Ms. Chitman, his former girlfriend, refused to give him money for drugs. He then stole Ms. McDonald s vehicle and fled to Toledo, where he was arrested two days later.

The jury heard testimony for most of the day Wednesday and returned its recommendation about 9:15 p.m. after deliberating for four hours. The panel could have recommended Glenn be sentenced to death or to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 or 30 years, but chose to recommend life without parole eligibility.
