A former Toledo architect recently was named to lead the American Institute of Architects New York State.

Terrence E. O'Neal, of Terrence O'Neal Architect LLC in Manhattan, was named president of the professional architect organization and serves as its first-ever African-American president.

Mr. O'Neal, 47, son of retired Scott High School teacher Brunetta O'Neal, graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and Kent State University and worked as an architect in Toledo for 1 1/2 years before moving to New York City.
