3/24/2006

Toledo brothers Donovan and Anton Dixie were sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for their roles in the brutal beating of a 23-year-old Maumee man at a Springfield Township gas station.

Judge James Bates sentenced Donovan Dixie, 30, to six months in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, Stryker, and five years of community control.

His brother, Anton Dixie, 25, was placed on community control for three years.

The Dixies of 5940 Walnut Circle and Andrew Rose, 25, of 2021 Stengel St., Maumee, were convicted of attempted felonious assault in the attack Nov. 27 of Daniel Curtis. Rose was sentenced last month to one year in prison.

A fourth defendant, Leo R. Frierson, of Fostoria, is charged with felonious assault. He is scheduled for a hearing April 26 before Judge Gary Cook. Mr. Frierson is a former University of Toledo football player.

Mr. Curtis suffered a broken jaw and other injuries at the BP gas station at Airport Highway and Holland-Sylvania Road.

In his sentences, Judge Bates ordered the three defendants convicted thus far to each pay one-fourth of Mr. Curtis medical costs, which so far have reached about $85,000.
