Fire department sued over crash injuries

PEMBERVILLE A Wood County motorist who was injured along with his daughter in a collision with a fire truck two years ago is suing the Pemberville-Freedom Fire Department, its chief, Freedom Township, and the truck s operator, claiming misconduct on the part of the driver.

Bryan Musser of Luckey filed the lawsuit Thursday in Wood County Common Pleas Court. He and his daughter, Taylor, who was 9 at the time, were driving east on State Rt. 582 at Bradner Road on April 10, 2004, when his vehicle collided with the fire truck, operated by Jamie Haas of Pemberville.

The suit says the fire truck s lights and siren were not operating at the time, and its driver did not slow down for traffic. The intersection has stop signs for north and southbound traffic. Fire Chief Duane Martin said yesterday he was unaware of the suit.
