Toledo man sentenced to 4 years for sex assault

4/20/2006

A Toledo man serving a prison sentence for child pornography was sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for an unrelated sexual assault on a child.

Judge Gary Cook imposed a four-year prison sentence on William Brandenberry and ordered that it be served consecutively to a prison sentence he received last year for a conviction in 2000.

Brandenberry, 60, whose name also appears in court records as Brandeberry, pleaded no contest last month to gross sexual imposition for having sexual contact with a girl in 2000.

Brandenberry's earlier conviction stemmed from an investigation that revealed he downloaded images of nude children onto a computer at his home.

He was convicted of three counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor and placed on community control for five years. However, Judge Cook sentenced him to prison in June for violating the terms of the community control.

Judge Cook also accepted the recommendation of a court psychologist that the defendant was a habitual sexual offender. Brandenberry will be required to register with the sheriff's office for 20 years upon his release from prison.
