Quarterly results fall at O-I, improve 38% at FirstEnergy

Owens-Illinois Inc. reported a profit yesterday of $24.3 million, or 12 cents a share, for the first quarter, down 79 percent from a profit of $117.5 million, or 73 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter.

The Toledo glass-container maker also said its revenue was $1.7 billion in the quarter, up slightly from first-quarter 2005.

AKRON - FirstEnergy Corp., parent of Toledo Edison, reported a first-quarter profit yesterday of $220.8 million, or 67 cents a share, a 38 percent increase from the same period a year ago.

The utility also reported revenues of $2.84 billion, up 3 percent from the $2.75 billion for the same period a year ago.
