Plea deal reached in bicyclist fatality

BOWLING GREEN A Rossford man charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Perrysburg bicyclist plans to enter a change of plea Monday.

David O Neill, 61, was to have gone on trial Monday in Wood County Common Pleas Court on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, failure to stop after an accident, and two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

The prosecution and a defense attorney told the court yesterday they had reached a plea agreement. Judge Alan Mayberry this week denied motions by the defense to have results of a blood-alcohol test thrown out.

Authorities say Mr. O Neill was northbound on State Rt. 65 between Five Point and Roachton roads Jan. 15 when he struck and killed Dr. Stephen Snedden, 47, and injured George Haig, 49, both of Perrysburg. Mr. O Neill s blood-alcohol level tested at 0.214 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent for a motorist in Ohio.
