An attorney for Gerald Robinson filed documents today in Lucas County Common Pleas Court appealing the conviction of the priest for the 1980 ritualistic murder of a nun.

The two-page notice will be sent to the Ohio 6th District Court of Appeals in Toledo and begins what will likely be an lengthy appeals process. John Thebes, a member of Robinson s defense team, submitted the notice appeal late this morning.

A jury found Robinson, 68, guilty last month of killing Sister Margaret Ann Pahl at the chapel in the former Mercy Hospital near downtown Toledo.

Mr. Thebes could not be reached for comment. Alan Konop, an attorney who was also on the case, would not comment.

The appeal doesn t provide reasons for the basis of the appeal. However, Prosecutor Julia Bates said the notice is a standard procedure.
