Child porn convict gets 40 months

8/29/2006

A Tiffin man who downloaded images of child pornography onto the computer at his home was sentenced yesterday in federal court to 40 months in prison.

Stephen C. Alt, who pleaded guilty in May to possessing child pornography, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge David Katz.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents seized computers, floppy disks, and equipment from the defendant's home on Oct. 20, 2004, after he transferred 11 computer files containing pornographic images to undercover authorities.

Thomas Secor, assistant U.S. attorney, said an examination of the computer's hard drive revealed 250 images and nine digital videos of children being sexually exploited.

Judge Katz recommended that Alt serve 30 months of the sentence at the federal prison in Butner, N.C., where he could receive treatment and rehabilitation. The prison term will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.
