Senior patrol volunteers to get partnership award

The Toledo police s Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol is expected to receive an award today for its partnership with the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, the police department announced.

Police Chief Mike Navarre plans to accept the award, the 2006 Outstanding AAA/Provider Partnership of the Year, on behalf of the program during the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging meeting in Columbus.

The RSVP program has 50 trained senior volunteers who provide one-on-one weekly visits to 92 area seniors who live alone to monitor their safety and well being.

Volunteers provide about 3,000 visits a year. The program is operated from the Scott Park district police station.
