Ex-registrar fined, put into diversion program

Gaye H. Huss, the former deputy registrar of a Point Place vehicle license agency accused of violating state policies, can avoid felony convictions if she successfully completes a court-diversion program.

Ms. Huss, 56, of 5435 Brown Rd., Oregon, was placed in the three-year program yesterday by Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles Wittenberg.

She was indicted on 13 felony counts of unauthorized use of computer, cable, or telecommunications property after being removed in February as deputy registrar of the Bay View License Agency, 4441 North Summit St.

The charges stemmed from an investigation into violations in state law for failing to verify signatures on license documents, a security measure that guards against fraud.

Judge Wittenberg ordered Ms. Huss to pay restitution of $1,124 to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

The agreement for her participation in court diversion stipulates that she cannot seek employment in state, county, or municipal offices.
