Man gets 60 days in jail for endangering stepson

BOWLING GREEN A Millbury man charged with assaulting his 4-year-old stepson pleaded guilty yesterday to a reduced charge of endangering children.

Brian J. Reiff, 29, was sentenced to serve 60 days in the Wood County jail with eligibility for work release.

Judge Robert Pollex of Wood County Common Pleas Court also placed him on community control for two years, ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine to the Cocoon domestic violence shelter, complete any recommended counseling, and have no unsupervised contact with the victim.

Lake Township police initially charged Mr. Reiff with domestic violence, but amended that to attempted murder after doctors who examined the youngster told authorities his injuries were consistent with a possible strangulation attempt.

Last December, a Wood County grand jury indicted Mr. Reiff for felonious assault and endangering children, but prosecutors agreed to dismiss the felonious assault charge as part of a plea agreement.
