Man gets 5 years for drug possession

11/3/2006

A Chicago man who was busted on the Ohio Turnpike with an estimated $3.7 million worth of cocaine was sentenced yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to five years in prison.

The sentence was imposed on Ambiorix Jimenez, 29, by Judge Ruth Ann Franks for the felony possession of cocaine conviction.

Jimenez and his passenger, Oscar Comas, also of Chicago, were stopped June 16 on the turnpike in Springfield Township for a traffic violation.

A drug-detection dog triggered an ensuing search that caused Ohio Highway Patrol troopers to find 37 kilograms, or a little more than 80 pounds, of cocaine in a hidden compartment in the bed of their truck.

Mr. Comas was convicted for misdemeanor attempted possession of criminal tools. He was sentenced to six months in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, Stryker.
