Local man who resisted trooper gets 30-day term

BOWLING GREEN - A Perrysburg Township man who fought with an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper after a minor accident and chase in March was sentenced yesterday to 30 days in jail and placed on community control for three years.

Anthony Parrish, 40, pleaded guilty in August to assault on a peace officer and endangering children stemming from the March 5 incident, during which Parrish failed to pull his pickup truck over when the trooper attempted to stop him. There were children inside the truck.

Parrish continued on with the trooper behind him, but lost control of his vehicle at State Rts. 25 and 582 and came to rest against a pole.

Trooper Shane Johnson ordered Parrish to put his hands up and then to lay on the ground, but Parrish yelled "make me" and charged at the trooper.

He punched and kicked the trooper, even after the trooper used a Taser stun gun on him.

In addition to the jail sentence, Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Pollex ordered Parrish to perform 120 hours of community service and pay a $1,000 fine.
