Johns Manville Corp. will lay off 60 workers temporarily and 40 permanently at a plant in suburban Toledo as a result of a planned periodic overhaul of a glass-making furnace there, the company informed the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The notice didn t state how long the layoffs in Waterville would last. They are likely to start between mid-January and mid-February, but officials didn t give an exact date.

A spokesman was unable to give details of the development. The company operates two plants in Waterville that produce glass fibers used in filters, wall coverings, roofing materials, and other products, employing 500 workers. It also operates a research and technical facility on the site.
