Akron couple indicted for standoff on turnpike

2/23/2007

BOWLING GREEN - An Akron couple has been indicted by a Wood County grand jury for obstruction of official business after they were involved in a 3 1/2-hour standoff with state troopers last month on the Ohio Turnpike.

Joshua Robertson, 25, and Susan Robertson, 23, were charged with refusing to obey troopers' commands to get out of their disabled vehicle, which was stopped on the left-hand berm of the Ohio Turnpike near the I-280 interchange about 4:40 p.m. Jan. 23.

The couple had a baseball bat and cane, and a pit bull was in the backseat with their three young children.

About 8 p.m., members of the Wood County Special Response Team broke a window and removed them from the car.

The Robertsons remain in the Wood County Justice Center in Bowling Green.

They are scheduled for a pre-trial in Perrysburg Municipal Court on April 5.
