$250,000 bond is set for murder suspect

PORT CLINTON Visiting Judge Richard Markus yesterday set bond at $250,000 for a Fairlawn, Ohio, man charged with pushing a man overboard in Lake Erie.

Scott A. Speer, 41, was indicted last week by an Ottawa County grand jury for aggravated murder and murder for the Aug. 6, 2002, drowning of James Barnett, 40, of Barberton, Ohio, near Catawba Island.

The new case has been joined with a 2006 indictment charging Mr. Speer with aggravated vehicular assault and involuntary manslaughter stemming from the same incident.
